Course Overview

Learn 3D Rigging basics

In this course, you will learn more about creating rigs for character animation using Autodesk's Maya. You will attend lectures, practice in class, and complete assignments outside of class to improve your skills.

The main focus will be on understanding how to create different parts like joints, attributes, constraints, basic skinning, inverse and forward kinematics controls, and ik spline. These parts will help you build a simple rig for a character.

The classes will include demonstrations of rigging techniques, discussions about the role of a rigger in the production process, feedback on your work, and helpful tips from industry professionals. Throughout the course, you will explore different rigging styles through weekly assignments and work towards creating a rig for a biped character in Maya.

Technical Artists: Innovators at the Intersection of Art and Technology

Technical art combines artistic skills with technical expertise to bridge the gap between art and technology.

Technical art, specifically 3D rigging, involves creating skeletal structures and controls to animate characters or objects in three-dimensional digital environments.

It applies in various industries, including animation, visual effects, video games, virtual reality, and augmented reality, where realistic and lifelike character movement is crucial.

In-Demand and Essential: The Value of Technical Artists in Creative Industries

Technical artists specializing in 3D rigging are in high demand due to the complexity and precision required for creating believable character animations.

This skillset is sought after by studios, game developers, and production houses to bring characters and objects to life, adding depth, personality, and functionality to digital creations.

Technical artists with expertise in 3D rigging possess the ability to build sophisticated rigs, develop complex deformation systems, and ensure smooth and realistic character movement.

Their knowledge of anatomy, physics, and animation principles, combined with technical proficiency, makes them valuable assets in the digital entertainment industry.
